THE 216 HAS ONE MAJOR SHORTCOMING. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NO PRODUCTS OR INFORMATION ABOUT SWIM LADDERS. I AM UNABLE TO BOARD THE BOAT FROM THE WATER. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL LADDERS THAT LOOP OVER THE GUNWHALE, BUT NONE HAS THE APPROPRIATE CONGORMATION. I HAVE TO BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE HAS SOLVED THIS PROBLEM. IF SO PLEASE SHARE THE SOLUTION. IF THERE IS A COMMERCIAL LADDER AVAILABLE PLEASE FURNISH SUPPLIER AND CODE NUMBER. I THANK THE PERSON OR PERSONS WHO HAVE AN ANSWER.

H216 Swim Ladder - Outlaw Surplus Marine
Norman, I purchased a new stainless steel telescoping swim ladder on eBay that was supplied by Outlaw Surplus Marine (727-561-0957)back in 2004. At that time, the swim ladder was called "S/S Telescopic Swim Ladder 3-step - New Look" and had an eBay item number of 2488748093. Also, at that time, a similar 4-step ladder was also available. In addition the ladder, I think you will find you will have to add spacers that do not come with the ladder to level the ladder out when it is installed. Also, as I recall, the stainless steel bolts and nylock nuts did not come with the ladder either. Check the archives under "216 boarding ladder" if you would like additional information on the installation. Lamar

H216 Swim Ladder Installation
Norman, The H216 swim ladder is usually mounted on the port or starboard side of the engine bracket. I'm not aware of any Hunter concerns about installing the ladder in this manner but then maybe I've missed something. I've not had any problems with my ladder but there may be other problems I'm not aware of. Maybe others will respond if they have had problems with the swim ladders. If you will check the archives you will see how some have mounted the ladders. One does have to be careful when drilling holes for the bolts that fasten the ladder to the deck. I suggest you crawl under the cockpit area seats back to the stern of the boat to see how the hull made where the ladder is typically mounted. There is a hollow space between inside of deck and the inside bottom of the hull. If you aren't careful, you could drill right through both surfaces and end up with a hole in the bottom of the boat near the stern. Also, it is important that the swim ladder be posiitoned properly where you can get the washers and Nylock nuts on the bolts without too much difficulty. Lamar

Norman I added a swim ladder over a year ago to the starboard side next to the motor mount. I have not had any problems. It was a three step fold down ladder avaialable at West marine and many other stores. It would not fold all the way down and rested on the rub rail when in the down position. I did not want that. I wanted the ladder to rest on the stop of the ladder. I used two twelve inch stainless steel bars mounted them to the transome. That way I could get the bolda foreward enough to miss the curve and bolt to the flat area. I then bolted the swim ladder to the sstainless steel bars. One mistake I made was mounting the ladder to close to the engine. I have to swivel the engine to raise the ladder. I used 3M 5200 to bed the bars.I also used mounting plates which were supplied with the ladder instead of washers on the inside of the boat. Gary

If you look under the improvements section for the H216 at this website, you can see a couple of pictures of my swim ladder. See link. I just used a basic folding two-step ladder and added some hardware to make it fit. I found that 2-steps was all I needed. If its too long, it might get stuck in the mud while deployed in shallow water.
