H216 Knock down
Yes probably any sailboat can be knocked down given conditions such as too much sail, steep waves and improper technique. I've had my 216 for 3 years and have been out in a number of good blows and never come close to a knock down. Even with full sails up and cleated in, the boat heals over to 35 to 40 degrees and then turns into the wind at which point it flattens out. Last year a friend and I tried to see just how far we could get it to lay over but we never got past 40 degrees. It’s a little tough to be sure about the actual angle at which it turns to the wind as at that angle you’re hanging onto the rail and the mainsheet and I don’t look to much at the gauge. It’s uncomfortable to be in such a position so I rather reef the sails and keep on going.Initially the H216 may seem be a little tender for some due to crew movement when at the dock this is due to its lightweight. Under sail and once your familiar with how it handles, the wide beam and the lead keel give it a very comfortable ride.Gary
