216 Hydraulic centerboard pump

Hunter 216 new castle, me
Maiden voyage of a recently purchased 216 had me worried when my hydraulic pump wouldnt retract a partially dropped centerboard. It wasnt until
I fully extended the centerboard that it worked just fine. Do these need to "cycle" like this, or is mine in need of an overhaul. On a related note, has anyone scrapped them for a block and tackle arrangement?

I have not encountered anything of this nature. Sometimes in choppy water the centerboard rocks back and forth, which can be annoying. When that happens I put just enough tension on the pump/cable to keep it from rocking back and forth. I have then released the pressure and then later on pumped back up.
