Sorry I was replying to a post by Allowishish in reference to a statement:
"I promise you that whether buying a 8K boat or a 250K boat you still have a budget."
My reply was: There is quite a big difference between a 8K and a 250K boat budget! I can guarantee that the individual with a 8K boat is more concerned with a marina dock fee.

Exactly. I know people that pay more each year for their slip than they did for their entire boat. So yes they squawk every time the slip price goes up 25 cents/foot. Not the same concern for someone who just bought a boat for a quarter of a million bucks.

So 'everyone has a budget' yes. But some budget for regular replacement of sails, and a new 12 inch chart plotter, and the like. Others budget ways to just keep their boat in the water.

my point was that "most" everyone has a budget regardless of the cost of their boat.

yes the people with the more expensive boat have "most likely" budgeted for the slip cost... but so should anyone with a boat that plans to keep it in a slip.

Personally when we "upgrade" we do not plan on being in a marina for more than a few days to a week at a time. the point for us is to see the world not the marina.

and for the record my current boat cost slightly less than $8k (I didn't just pick that number out of a hat in my previous post)... and we made sure to budget for a slip and repairs.

Anyone not budgeting for their boats storage or slip fees is just not prepared. That would be the financial equivalent of heading out without either proper training or the necessary gear...

This quote could be extended to much of life. Maybe why there is such a fear that no one in the future will be able to retire. Let alone own a boat of their dreams.

Perhaps everyone will just rent boats.
