Hello all,
I've had favorable feedback from enough people to set the 2013 PNW Rendezvous schedule.

The 2013 PNW Rendezvous will be held Tuesday 10th and Wednesday 11th September 2013 at Lopez Island Resort in Fisherman Bay, Lopez Island, San Juan Islands Group, Washington State, USA. (48°30.774'N, 122°54.894'W)

Space is being held for 10 boats, but I was advised that more would not be a problem. Registration is up to each person and can be done by phone (800.736.3434). For more information please visit the Resort website at Lopez Islander Resort | Lopez Island, WA | USA

Moorage fees show on this page are for the winter season. Summer rates (until the end of October) are:
up to 30' $43.95 per night
up to 40' $53.95 per night
This includes power and water.

For those who haven't attended a PNW Rendezvous before, they are a totally informal affair with no planned events and no schedule. In the past the first evening's meal has been at a local restaurant and the next evening a potluck supper is held around the boats at the dock. In between times there is dinghy sailing, Kayaking, and of course a lot of boat "noodling". The Resort has a nice swimming pool, and there is a village about a 20 minute walk down the road.

For those who want to take in other events in the area here's a rundown of some of what's going on:
- Victoria Classic Boat Festival, Aug. 30 - Sept.1
- Deer Harbor Wooden Boat Festival, Sept. 3 & 4
- Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival,Sept. 7-9

Please contact me if you plan to attend and have any questions.

East coast dudes who will be that man? Let's make it Halifax Nova Scotia for 2013. I will flip burgers or steaks and provide local expertize knowledge on beer stores.

Hi there John. We would love to come to Halifax, but it would have to be by car, and not in Double Fantasy, at least not this year! Paul and I have tried to set up a Maine gathering several times, but there apparently isn't much interest, Perhaps distances are just too great. I proposed Belfast Harbor on more than one occasion as it is centrally located for boats coming from the north or south, is easy to enter, has a lot of moorings and many shore side amenities. If our boat is in the water this year, which hopefully it will be, I think Paul and I will pick a weekend to sail there, perhaps in August, and put out the word to the group--hopefully other Vega sailors will come. I know there are several Vegas in the immediate area. Perhaps this will get the ball rolling, and, if not, we will certainly enjoy sailing to one of our favorite areas.

Hello Melanie and John
I would be interested in a Vega gathering in Belfast Maine this summer. Penobscot Bay is a great place to sail.

I'd come to Belfast, I'm in Frenchman Bay, near Bar Harbor. I don't know there were other Vegas near by. Lets do it!

I have heard Belfast Harbor from a few people now so that is easy Belfast it is. Now all we need is a date. Like everyone if it will not work out for me to sail I will drive and make a weekend out of it. (I am going to try to sail though) What we need is someone from Belfast to be the identifiable local expert. This sound grand, but what I mean is someone who lives there and knows the amenities who can help with customs stuff like that. They can be a point of contact for the rest of us. I think we are on our way or at least in the right direction for an NE USA Gathering. It is nice to be thinking of sailing while sitting out yet another blizzard. Awaiting the thaw John

Well, I do not live in Belfast, but I am the one who suggested it as it is one of my favorite towns. I have lived in and sailed Maine for over 20 years now. Don't mind being the point of contact or organizer as I have done this before. My first inclination is to have it in August, either the 10th-11th or 17th-18th. Don't want the 24th-25th as that is the weekend of the Bangor Folk Festival. I can check with the Belfast harbor master as to the availability and cost of rental moorings and to see if they are any big cruising clubs coming in August that would make those dates a bad idea. Belfast is a large harbor and I don't anticipate a problem. There is a nice little park right at the town landing and many restaurants right there too. One of my favorites is Weathervane, a reasonably priced seafood restaurant. Camden State Park is nearby, but there are also many private campgrounds in the vicinity. I can also check whether there are any town festivals which might change what dates we ultimately select. We would be sailing there from Sedgwick on Friday so we would be getting a mooring for three nights.

I used to have a list of all the AVA members in Maine, but no longer have anything remotely current. Hey there, Chuck, do you have any kind of membership list anymore? Hopefully, most Vega owners use this Yahoo group site. I know Nico Walsh has expressed interest in a get together and he is in the Portland area. There used to be one fellow, I think his name was Paul, that actually kept his boat in Belfast.

If only 1 other Vega shows up, that would at least be a start!

Spent this morning shoveling out 2 feet of snow from yesterday's blizzard!

Smooth Sailing,

Awesome Melanie we have our selves a plan from which to deviate. Perhaps we could start a list of East coast sailors with Vegas who at some point might want to be involved. I understand the problematic nature of commitment. I currently serve my country which affects to some extent my abilities to make these kinds of plans. However I solemnly believe we could all benefit from our associated interests. Congratulations though on stepping up we are indeed further ahead. Sincerely John

Melanie and John:

If you look at the database associated with this group, there are a few Vega's on or near the Maine coast?
Victory is in Stockton Harbor; Annike is in Falmouth,ME; hull # 1865 is in Portland (to be named); Hull 703 is in Chester, NS; Arenal is in Wickford,RI, Alegro in Fall River, NS; Hotai in Martha's Vineyard, MA; Allegro in Milbridge, ME; Aeolus in Winterport, ME. There is some contact information in that listing.

I haven't checked any of the other Vega group databases?

John
