Has anyone found a good location/ method for storing an outboard on this boat with the new open transom design. I have a small 2.5 HP outboard and have not been able to come up with a solution. Any ideas would be appreciated!

I have a 306 which has similar rail seating. I have a 2.5 hp Yamaha one a rail mount on the port side. $25.00 bracket that installs over the rail.

Hannah, Thanks for the reply! Looks like a good option and an area I have considered. Can you say how much , if any , does that location interfere with using the stern pulpit seat with the motor hanging on that mount!

I purchased it from my local marine shop, The Binnacle for less then $30.00. Very cheap and takes about 2 minutes to install. The placement doesn't interfere with the person using the rail set. With the 2.5 hp outboard which is nice and light, it makes it really easy to stand on the rear transom and remove or install the outboard.

Or you could hung it at the small horizontal bar of the arch. That's what I did on my 326 and on friend's 33.

Unfortunately my boat is not available until the end of Feb so I can't give you measurements. I also looked for pictures with the outboard showing but this is the only one I could find. It consists of a Seadog mount as per Hannah's post and uses a Seadog hinged Tee (290904-1) to connect to the bottom rail, 2 short lengths of 1" stainless steel tube and a Seadog bow form in between. I can't remember if it is a 110° or 125° bow form. The motor is out of the way of both the swim platform and stern seat. It also allows me to easily move the Yamaha 2.5 hp from the mount to the inflatable from the swim platform.

I had forgotten that I had removed the motor mount so the dealer can show the boat at the Vancouver boat show. So here is the skinny:

- Hinged Tee (Sea Dog 290904 approx. $25) connects to the bottom rail,
- 125° Bow Form (Sea Dog 295126 approx. $25)
- a 7 1/4" piece of SS tubing connects these two,
- Rail Mount Motor Bracket (Sea Dog 327150 $20),
- a 5 1/4" piece of SS tubing connects the Bow Form to the bracket.

Total cost approximately $70 and a couple of pieces of 1" SS tubing.

Thanks much for the detailed reply! I'll look in to these parts and see if I can't figure it out. Is that not a mount on your port stern seat in the picture you posted?

Yes the picture shows the mount just to the inside of the Port stern seat but I was hoping that I had one showing the motor secured on the bracket. That way you could see that the outboard was not in the way of either the stern seat or the swim platform. Also it really is easy to loosen off the clamp screws on the outboard pick it up and place it on the transom of the dinghy. It is at the right height and right angle and it could not be any easier.

Hannah, Thank you for adding the photo. My rail is slightly different in that where you have your mount is where the arch starts on my boat. I'll have to try Hello Below or Ken13559 recommendations.

The lower bar on the 2012 Hunter 33 is 1 1/4". What did you use for a motor mount. I had considered that option and it still sounds like the place for it; but, I couldn't find an off the shelf motor mount that would fit the bill. The upper bar is 2", I believe.

Len, I use a wooden chopping board (cutting board) approx 10"x12" 3/4"-1" thick. Secure to horizontal bar with 2"-3" U bolts. An aluminum strip connect mount to a lower bar to prevent mount from tipping. I'll post picture when I get home.

Gary, initially I found it very difficult to take a new boat, so clean and uncluttered in the cockpit and then load it down with stuff that you know you need to sail with. Things like, an outboard, a BBQ bracket, a stern tie, a life ring, antennas and a flag pole really clutter up the stern rail but are needed to coastal sail. I even thought about laying the motor in the huge Euro locker but that would not be a good idea for many reason, safety being pramount. So it is was compromise and I have to say I am happy that I can sit on the port stern seat and only be minimally bothered by the outboard and the selling point to me was the ease of lifting the Yamaha off the mount, literally bend down and place on the transom of the dinghy all without moving from the swim platform. No cranes, no winches, no pulled back muscles. Life is okay.
