2009 was a memorable year, but one that many folks would rather to forget. What are you resolving to do better (or more often) in the New Year?

Share your 2010 resolutions here, then vote quiz at the bottom of the home page.

1. Install all the boat parts that I have purchased/accumulated over the past couple of years.

2. Spend more time going places with all that new equipment installed.

3. Don't swear at all the politician's for getting us in more debt than we can ever pay off.

4. Buy more stuff from the SBO site to keep this wonderful site going for another 10 years or more.<g>

1) Last year we completed the "must-do" jobs - replaced wet flotation foam, replaced rotted bulkhead, stripped bottom, trailer bearings, rebedded the side windows, etc. - so this year is the beauty year: rub down and polish the deck and hull, repaint the bottom, new stripes, new mains'l cover, and treat her like the lady she is.

2) last year was a poor season up here, so the goal this year is to do more spontaneous sailing, which means being better-prepared. I also hope to do more "scheduled" sailing, like maybe crewing on a racing boat.

3) The wonderful economy ended my full-time job last January, which was the last obstacle in my way to going freelance. And that wasn't totally a bad thing (see list of repairs made in #1 above ;) ). So I have to up my game this year if I want to stay freelance and keep that time flexibility, which was great for boat work and sailing.

4) try to stay optimistic that national governments really do have the public's best interests at heart. It's been a tough decade, though...

North Channel in 10

We will take six weeks in two three week sections, and sail Lady Lillie from Sandusky to the North Channel of Lake Huron and back late this summer.

We plan to spot our van at Presque Isle, MI, and leave the boat there for two weeks while we catch up on our jobs, and then return for three more weeks in the North Channel, then back down to Sandusky.

We got our Nexus cards to make returning to the US easy a couple of weeks ago. Our friends the Nilssons will join us on their Gelan Gar, a Cherubini Hunter 30 for the first three weeks.

It sure adds some spice to the winter planning sessions. We rejoined the Great Lakes Cruising Club so we could have access to their port reports, and North Channel guides online. They continue to do a great job, and their work on the North Channel is without peer.

Spend even more time sailing this summer. Working on a plan to work 1 or 2 days from home (boat) this summer. David's plan sounds like fun. I'd like to try to sail to Geneva-on-the-Lake, the marina of the PO, this summer.
