All good points. I think it worked for us because we have a personal relationship with the two other couples. We've sailed together and know each others capabilities and limitations. In all cases, we've sailed the local area and returned to the pickup point to swap back. I think there has a to be a sense of trust that everyone will be responsible in the end.

Wow, that offer sounds awfully attractive from this vantage point
(Ontario has had no summer this year). Please keep us posted. Trev

I am not looking for an exchange but if someone wants to borrow my Vega
there may be some oppotunities. I live aboard but occasionally need a
break and would not mind if someone takes care of the boat instead of
leaving it on a mooring.

The problem is that i do not usually plan too far ahead, so you may need
to be spontaneous. For a general idea: I am in Airlie Beach (Whitsunday
islands), Australia, at the moment, probably staying between here and
Sydney until February 2010. I hope to be in South East Asia by the end
of next year and plan to go inland for a while then, too. If there is a
general interested in those locations, let me know, maybe we can work
something out. I will also try to post a note whenever I plan to leave
the boat.

Cheers,
Julia
