We're always like Pt. Browning and Fisherman's Bay. We're good with either one and also with any of the dates.

Hi Steve,

Nice look to the new web site.
Though I do not own "Flicka" V-1874 any longer I plan to monitor your great site as well as the US site and e-mail in the future.
Last fall I donated the boat to the Long Island Maritime Museum and they in turn sold her to a chap from Boulder CO. He bought a trailer and about three months ago had an uneventful 3 day trip back home and relocated Flicka to Colorado.

Again, god luck with the new web site.

Nice job, Steve. It has a clean look and a logical layout, easy to navigate.

One suggestion: links to Vega forums, other clubs, and the Vega Database would be nice.

Well Done Steve, looks very slick and is easy to navigate.
The only criticism from me is the absence of any visual identifier the Union Jack or similar, but perhaps I am being old fashioned in this dreadful world of political correctness and bland european conformity.
Far more worrying, however, is the fact that apart from yourself and Mike, all other Committee positions are vacant and you have to take on the role of Technical support, Treasurer, Editor and website designer! WHERE ARE ALL THE OTHER UK VEGA OWNERS?
In the meantime, thanks for all your hard work keeping us in touch with the Vega World.

I would like to add a suggestion that I have been contemplating for some time. Those of you who have considered exchanging homes as a way of traveling inexpensively might be interested in exchanging Vega's with or without a home base / car etc. It seems to me that the Vega community worldwide is made up of individuals who share many of the same views regarding sailing and traveling in small boats. A Vega Exchange Forum would enable individuals to link with like minded persons and experience sailing in different parts of the world. I for one would be interested in a boat exchange program despite the fact that I no longer own a Vega.

Hi Steve,

The site looks very good. And it's good to see that Southern Comfort
gets pride of place below the page title! Thanks for maintaining this
valuable resource (and removing the java applets that kept crashing my
browser!)

One thing I'd change is the drop down box for downloads - as far as I
can see, these are being phased out across the web as they don't work
well with back buttons/history etc (I'd be happy to help put the
newsletters into html format too, which might be even better). But
only a minor quibble in an excellent site.

Steve, Got to agree with Tom, a very nice picture of Southern Comfort. I believe the proper term to describe her would be "with a bone in her teeth".

Nice piece on history and attributes. I'm going to show it to the surveyor just before Lyic goes back into the water. Walt

I would be very interested in a "Vega boat exchange" program. I lived in Europe for many years and lots of my friends exchanged their Paris apartments to use apartments in other countries during vacations. An exchange where someone uses my Vega here in Seattle to sail Puget Sound while I use his/her Vega in some other part of the world would be great.

Not much interest in this topic except for your reply Catherine. Perhaps everyone is on holidays...Anyone interested in exchanging boats in different parts of the world?

I'm all for the Vega exchange idea. Paul and I were able to charter a
Vega for the 2004 IFR in Sweden and had a great time. We would be interested
in attending the 2010 IFR if someone in the host country was willing to
charter his/her Vega or perhaps exchange for a week in the beautiful cruising
waters of Penobscot Bay in Maine. We would be interested in exchanges both
in the US and abroad.

In light of the fact that Flicka is moored on a tiny lake in Colorado, I doubt if there would be much interest in an exchange for me....-Tim

Wow, Alisdair! Looks a lot like the Maine coast feeling the wrath of
Hurricane Bill this past Sunday!

I am not looking for an exchange but if someone wants to borrow my Vega there may be some oppotunities. I live aboard but occasionally need a break and would not mind if someone takes care of the boat instead of leaving it on a mooring.

The problem is that i do not usually plan too far ahead, so you may need to be spontaneous. For a general idea: I am in Airlie Beach (Whitsunday islands), Australia, at the moment, probably staying between here and Sydney until February 2010. I hope to be in South East Asia by the end of next year and plan to go inland for a while then, too. If there is a general interested in those locations, let me know, maybe we can work something out. I will also try to post a note whenever I plan to leave the boat.

Cheers,
Julia

We're in the same boat (pun intended). Bella's not quite ready for live-aboard yet. But she is on the Great Lakes, USA. I'd be willing to do a house/boat swap, but you'll definitely want to do it during the summer.

We have two couples whose boats we watch when they need a trip back to the states. We are usually able to plan ahead a few months. But we basically fly down, take over the boat (sometimes there's overlap, and sometimes not), and they get to fly back for a week or two. They are both people we've sailed with and known for some time. Neither are Vega owners, but it works out well for all involved.

Its actually a great idea if you can find people you trust. The boat owner gets to return "home" without worrying about their boat.

It's an interesting idea, but my concerns are:

What happens if your boat is involved in an accident, or something major breaks whilst being sailed by the exchange skipper, or, God forbid, the boat is lost at sea with possible loss of life? Insurance to cover such eventualities might be available but I wonder if it is viable, and no one wants to come home to such catastrophes. Unlike a house-swap, sailing can be a dangerous pastime.

On the other hand I live in sunny Cyprus and am more than happy to take visiting VEGA owner(s) sailing on my boat if they contact me beforehand.
