2010 Honda 9.9 with new impeller doesn’t “pee”.

What would prevent a 2010 Honda 9.9, with a new water pump impeller, from “peeing”?
Note that:
1. Tube from pump to power head feels “loose”. It can be turned an wiggled.
2. When using the “flush kit” (not ear muff) water comes out of all proper orifices, including the cooling water indicator (hole from which it should pee).
3 I’ve also installed a new thermostat. Thank you, in advance.

On most of the otboards I've owned ,there is a short rubber hose from the block to a clip on the frame . I've found spiders, mud daubers will move into the hose and set up house. Have you removed the hose itself ? The hose you speak of is from the
water pump that goes into the botttom of the engine ?

Did you try taking it apart and putting it back together again? :)

Seriously, it's probably assembled incorrectly, like the tube from the lower unit to the tube not mated, or something similar.

Did you install the impeller?

Also common, if bits of the old impeller came loose, they can plug passages, including the pee passage.

Poke inside the pee passage and hose. Also all of the assembly tips.

I have a different outboard but have experienced what you describe. My Yamaha 2.5 outboard is used in saltwater. Under the impeller is a stainless steel plate. The impeller rubs against that plate. That plate is easily removed by simply lifting it up when the impeller is out. Under that plate there is always a build up of a substance similar in appearance to toothpaste. That substance eventually completely blocks the intake water to the cooling system. Have tried flushing the engine at the end of the season in freshwater in a trash barrel and then taking apart the impeller and found the substance still there. Flushing in a proper mix of freshwater and Saltaway also had no effect. Placing a gob of the substance in raw or diluted Saltaway had no effect. I have no idea what it is but I assume it comes from saltwater. Look under that plate.

On my Honda 8 I had no pee (well, the outboard had none) twice, once was mud in the tube that sticks out of the housing. The other was that I did not get the two parts of the tube from the impeller up to the head connected properly. That is tricky to do when putting the foot back up.

I had this happen twice on different larger motors
1) No peeing but motor was not overheating: The pee-tube was clogged with sand and I cleaned it out with a wire. If I had discovered that first I probably wouldn't have had to install the new impeller.
2) No peeing and motor was getting hot: When the new impeller was installed, the key that keeps it locked to the shaft had slipped out of position so the impeller was spinning on the shaft and not pumping water. Had to take it apart and reinstall.

Thanks to all of you.
This is a used 2010 engine, bought with the understanding that some TLC would be required.
There were some bits of previous impeller blades in the place between the raw water pick up and the raw water entry to the channel that actually feeds the pump. My large error in not cleaning between the cast channel and the intake.
Oh well, what’s another 60 bucks?
