Is it possible the stay should attach to the hole that is a bit forward of the one you have it shackled to? That one looks like the stay would be tighter. I would think the original stay, without the furler, would have been on the forward hole, letting a hanked on jib pin to the aft hole.

I responded privately with some references but was unable to find a manual on line for the furler which I believe is a 700 series Hood furling system. Probable causes could be improper tension on the forestay, lack of lubrication, torlon balls dirty and or worn out or halyard wrap. Any of these could cause the reason for not working. I asked that he respond back to me and I will let you know what he says

some photos for your reference of my furler

I took a few photos in case they might be helpful. I thought I had the manual for the furler, but it wasn't to be found. In case you can't see from the photo, the furler is attached to the rear hole (closest to the stern).
