I have a 2007 Hunter 25 which sits on a mooring all season long. This was my first year of owning this boat (a great boat by the way) but I'm having an issue where it is fouling mooring pennants. It appears that the combination of too much freeboard and the position of bow cleats might be causing the problem. Are there any Hunter owners out there that have had this same problem, and is there a fix for it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pennants

On our 260 struggled with pennants for 2yrs.Cleats small and side mounted. Our ball has chain through center out top. What we did. Start at ball. Shackle then swivel (for untwisting pennants) then shackle then sling link (important for keeping pennant thimbles from abrading each other) then dual 5/8 polydine pennants then foam pipe insulation zip tie (very important so lines are always floating). New England Rope 5/8” same strength as Yale 5/8 but ever so slightly smaller for better cleat fit. Would have to modify this set up for under ball mounting.

I agree...

We have a 33 and suffer the same problems. The foam floats finally solved the problem for us once and for all. The trick was to keep the line floating and away from the ball. We have tidal currents that often override the prevailing winds resulting in our boat riding up over the mooring ball. The floats keep the slack from drifting under the ball and wrapping. BTW I use pool noodles available at walmart for $1.74 each for the floats. Good luck Andy

Can you tell me what a "sling link" is? I had a thimble abrade thru this summer.

Thank you everyone

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. The one question I do have is that my mooring bridle is a single rope spliting off into two. Will the foam pieces work with this set up or should I do something different.

LINK FLOATS

Sling link: Hamilton Marine catalog page 125. It’s a solid link with more open space than a shackle so two thimbles won’t dig into each other. As it is a solid link the pennants must be made up around this link. Hamilton did this work for me to my specs. Single split to bridle: I don’t have experience with this setup. If it were out the top of the ball I would think the floats would help. If its underneath then it should be setup as shown on page 121 of the Hamilton Marine catalog. Maybe its setup wrong.
