Well I went for a very cool boat ride on the ferry yesterday on long Island sound and hard to believe that I saw sailboats out sailing, only because it was so cold over to CT. So I got to see my new 36 and she is coming along and should be ready to splash the end of this month. My question is that port side cockpit locker is really big and with the house bank and starter battery plus I have a gen,so I am wondering will she list to portside a lot I will want to add more house bank AH but more weight will make it list more I am sure. So I know some guys added more weight to starboard side but has any one moved the house bank and where. Nick

Seadaddler, It so happens....

Yes, you will list to port. If I'm not suffering from to much CRS the boat will want to track to starboard because of the list. I had the same problem and moved my house bank to starboard under the salon seat. Check the link below. Damn its cold out sure wish the temps would rise above 40!! Jim S/V Java

Wow they must have been very long cables and running them must have been some job. I wish that there was room some where in the rear berth with a shorter run of cable, but I guess that would be too easy. Thanks Jim I think I'll start off with a few cases of water for now. Nick

In my case, I added 20gal of water stb seat...

...and keep my malibu kayak on that side too. I have 4- 27 batteries in that locker and if it weren't for the water tank I added our boat would really list. Keeping your fuel tank full also helps a little. abe

Actually not a long run

The cables actually run from where the batteries are to the underneath the nav table were they attach to the positive negative bus. Not as bad as trying run back to the port locker. Jim S/V Java

Do you have the 4 group 27 batteries all on the house, what about a start battery. On my last boat I had 4 27 on the house and no start but had a portable remote starter. I think I would do what Jim did later on it doesn't seem too much of a run from the nav table to the salon table. In the time being the extra water and what ever else will help. Nick

I have 3 house, 1 starter..........

I have always debated about all 4 for house since I have a honda2000 generator and portable battery for emergencies. I am paranoid about not able to start my boat out in the islands. I think what I am going to do when my batteries get old is 3-27 house, 1 cheap starter battery. Hunter is also willing to make you a similar box that already exists for your other 2 batteries...makes things nice and pretty in the locker. abe

About 3 drgree port list

I have 2 4D lifeline in ehe port locker and a group 24 starter just aft in the stern port locker along with a 5kw Northern Lights genset. I think Jim has the best location for the house batteries. It's a pretty short run from under the starboard seats. We get used to the list, but it is a little aggravating that the shower doesn't completely drain. If I leave everything as I have it now, it would take about 260 pounds under the starboard dinnete seat to balance out. Maybe this summer I will add some lead or something to get that done.

Moving Batteries

The port cockpit locker is so big and tempting for storing other boat equipement. So the thing to do is try starting out with a balanced boat and moving those heavy batteries and to the AH would do that. Than being able to add other boating equipement in that big port cockpit locker. Nick

Where did you find room to put 4 27s on the 290? Did they all fit under the stbd seat? Did you use battery boxes? On the 33, I can fit only 2 batteries in the battery locker (under stbd seat) if they are in boxes, maybe 3 without boxes. I wouldn't go without boxes though. I *may* be able to squeeze in 2 more under the forward part of that seat. But I need to find a better (cheaper) place than West Marine to buy battery cables. Gregg
