Hello, My wife and I are looking at a new 309 that seems to fit our needs and most of our wants. However, as I have been told multiple times, don't buy one that the wife is not completely happy with. This boat we both agree on and love the layout inside and out. When we went onto the boat it had been closed up all day, but we noticed a smell in the cabin that seems to be the slight odor of diesel fuel. My wife is against this boat because she does not know if this is normal. We looked at a new 2007 beneteau 323 later the same day and it too had been closed up all day. But when we went in the cabin it seemed to smell new and did not have any odor at all. My question is, Why is there a slight smell of diesel in the 309 but not in the Beneteau? Is this a normal issue with the 309 or is there something that needs to be adjusted or modified? Any information would be helpful. thank You

Fuel smell.

I have sailed a 309 and I can say that there was NO fuel smell what so ever. I feel that the boat you looked at may have a small fuel leak or a vent problem. I loved the the 309 but it was too much boat for me at this time, however when I am ready I will nuy one. Alan

Not Normal

You shouldn't expect any boat, and certainly not a new one, to have a diesel smell. Not normal. Good Luck! Tim Brogan April IV C350 #68 Seattle
