I have a 2005 H33. It has several hairline gel coat cracks in the following areas:
- water fill
- around mast step
- around chain plate
- arch mounting plate
- a few other spots on cabin deck

Do other H33 owners have same issue? Should I be concerned? Anyone do anything to repair or would they just come back?

Thanks.

Hud, I had a 2009 H33 and experienced the same thing. Actually in many of the areas that you mentioned. Purchased new so I told the dealer. Here is the response I got, I quote... "only the gelcoat, they all do that, don't worry about it". Hmmm. did not give me lots of reasurrance. I have noticed on the 41 that there are a few but nothing like the 33.

It spent the winter on (6 months) a trailer. The 41 does as well. The cracks showed up during our first season with it. Before its first winter on the trailer.

I have been told before and it does make sense to me, that by sitting in a craddle with the mast up , can produce gel coat cracks........

some boats are not stored on propper cradldes......with winds pushing on the boat there is no give, which can produce stress cracks.

I have talked to many people who run boat lifts and they all say.....just picking up this boat (15 tons) in the slings deforms the shape of the boat

just my two cents

Navi, I really have no basis for agreeing or disagreeing with this theory but it would seem to me that being tossed and turned by the water and waves while sailing would put the same or more stresses on the hull of the boat. But as I stated I really have no engineering support for that. I am sure that someone in this group can confirm or deny my theory. :)

The boat does spend 6 months on a cradle designed for the boat. That is an interesting theory, but would mostly only make sense for the cracks around mast step.

As a comparison, my 2004 H33 has only 1 small area of gel coat cracks on the toe rail. Not sure why some have more then others.

I saw your comments re cracks and i checked my 2005 H33. I have no cracking, my boat is always in the water, never on the hard. i don't know if that makes a difference.
