I was at the marina yesterday when a friend's outboard (model 1F06211CK) quit as he was approaching the dock at idle. I thought maybe the idle speed was too low so I took off the cover and examined the carb to bump the idle up a bit. What seemed strange to me was that there were 2 open ports (vacuum?) on the top of the carb between the throttle plate and the choke plate. It seems to me that these ports should be plugged or connected to one another. Can anyone advise? Thanks.

Here is the IPB for a 2002, should be the same as the '04: http://www.tohatsuoutboardparts.com...alog MFS4A2-5A2-6A2 (2002) - (00221046-3).pdf
On the carb page (5), you'll see the illustrated parts breakdown. If the parts are all on your friends carb you may want to look at the idle jet, item 1-3 which is listed as "Pilot Jet". For mine it's listed as "Slow Jet".
When I had problems with idling, the good folks here clued me in on this jet. It has a hole drilled through the body and a tiny hole that intersects that one drilled through the end. This hole gets clogged up and prevents idling. Clean it out with a small peice of wire or torch tip cleaner and it should be ok.

Didn't seem like any parts were missing but I'll check it again. The main thing that looked strange were the 2 ports open to the air. Looked like they should have been capped but maybe not. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the IPB and idle jet info. I'll pull the jet and check the passages. I think I have some fine telephone hookup wire somewhere that might work for reaming it out.
