Location of the Seafire system components is going to be the brainchild of the installer who put the system in. This is an add on component and I don't believe it was an option direct from Hunter. Good luck! Hope this helps.
On a 2004 Hunter 33.5 sailboat, the Sea-Fire box (which is the control unit for the fire suppression system) is typically located near the
engine compartment.
Manufacturers like Sea-Fire design their systems to be installed in a conveniently accessible and well-ventilated location, often with a display panel at the helm for system status.
Here's why the engine compartment area is the most likely location and what to look for:
- Primary Protection Area: The engine compartment is the most common place for boat fires to start, so the fire suppression system's cylinder and control unit are usually placed to protect this area.
- Accessibility: While the cylinder itself might be mounted in the engine room, the "box" (control unit/actuator) often has an accessible manual pull handle for discharge. This means it needs to be somewhere easily reached in an emergency, but also protected from direct heat.
- Wiring and Sensors: The Sea-Fire box connects to sensors in the engine room and possibly to engine/blower shutdown systems. Keeping it close to these components simplifies wiring.
- Owner's Manual: Your Hunter 33.5 Owner's Manual is the definitive source for this information. It should have diagrams and specific instructions for the fire suppression system's installation and location. Look for sections on "Safety Equipment," "Engine Compartment," or "Fire Suppression System." If you don't have a physical copy, many manuals are available online through sailing forums or manufacturer websites.
- Visual Inspection: If you're on the boat, start by looking in and around the engine compartment. Check:
- Behind access panels in the cockpit or aft cabins that open to the engine space.
- Under companionway steps.
- In lockers or compartments adjacent to the engine room.
