Hi all,
Just woke up from a deep sleep and had that "Whoa", Déjà vu feeling. Since we pulled into a slip over Thanksgiving we've been able to access WiFi so I had done upgrades to certain files and spent time trying to get comfortable with them. Well after a heated argument between me and Cortana of Windows 10 last weekend, I pulled her plug. I also pulled the plug on Open CPN 4.0 going back to the older 2.5.
Things were now running smoothly on the old laptop. However my wife's Christmas present came, iPad, and we decided to get it running before the holiday rush at Apple support. We aren't that savvy so we had support helping us over the phone turning systems on. You might know the drill, iTunes, iCloud, Bluetooth, Siris, etc. Well I only wanted iLunch and iBeer to work as my wife continued with the start-up help from support.
Four hours later my wife put the iPad down and I saw my chance. I quietly tapped the screen and did the swipe but couldn't open it without a code or fingerprint. Unsure of how 007 got the fingerprints from a wine glass, I just asked the wifey to open the iPad (got the look).
My first app was a navigational program and I went through the prompts. There was a question about opening up a FB connection and I logged in. It didn't seem to work but the program turned on and I played with it for a short while. I then thought the pain in my arm was getting worse so I gave the iPad back to my wife and got a tissue for the bleeding where her fingernails dug in.
Then came the scream. She had been trying to either load her contacts or sync them from her MacBook for the last two hours and now they were gone. Unfortunately mine appeared in her contact list. I couldn't reverse it, couldn't close it, and couldn't offer any help on getting the undo to work. I was told to go stand on the dock. So grabbing a beer I went over to talk with our neighbor varnishing his handrails.
By nightfall nothing was fixed and emails were sent to support for Monday morning. The evening meal was quiet so after I did the dishes I grabbed a book and read in the rear berth.
In the middle of the night I started thinking about how my wife was asking Siris for help. Then the questions morphed into how the two of them could do well without my help. Then if the boats chart plotter's Bluetooth had been turned on, they could control the boat and even take over all the other systems. I woke in a cold sweat and got out of bed. Whoa Déjà vu again. Does Siris know about Cortana?
Tomorrow I begin the resistance movement, don't upgrade. Can SBO print the T shirts?
