Hi All,

Anybody have experince with a Hunter 270 w/ in-board diesel?
It looks like a good boat. It seems to have a wing keel instead of the water ballast of the 260's.
Just concerned about an in-board trailersailer and the potential problems.

Thanks,

Jeff

I have a 1990 Hunter 27, bulb wing keel, with an outboard. I think it's a great boat, and solid for the coastal crusing I do on Long Island Sound. If I was sailing in ocean swells and less protected waters I would want a heavier boat though. I haven't had any problems, and she doesn't leak, but when new it was a very simple boat, I'm working to modernize the rig and electronics. A few more little upgrades and she'll be outfitted as well as many of the newer and bigger boats are.

I don't trailer mine, not sure if I even could without a custom made jack stand trailer.

I was under the impression that the specs of a 27 make it only trailerable under special permit. Others here could probably speak to that further.

mine has a 9' beam, which from what I was told, is 1' larger than most (all?) states allow without a wide load sign / permit... I never intended to trailer mine so it isn't an issue for me.

Depends on how far it is to the launch!!!!!!!!!!! In Maine, the limit is 8'-0. Some states are 8'-6. Take the back roads.

As far as ocean swells, bigger boat go. . . I sail my Lancer 25 ten miles out in 8' seas and don't bat an eye. Change my pants maybe but my eyes are fine. Am I being brave or stupid? Or riding the thin blonde line that divides the two?

Just talked to DOT and that for boats they have relaxed the rule in NC to bring it up to 9'-6". You just need to put lights on the widest part of the beam.
Anyone sailed a 270? The quick step mast system seems like a great aspect.

I just pulled my Oday 25. You better have a good 4 wheel drive and a solid trailer. We have had rain for the last few days and even with the tongue extended 8 foot, it was a wheel spinning joy ride to get that boat with a 2000lb keel up a slick ramp. I am moving it to a marina to keep on the hard and pay them $12.50 to put it in and pull it out when I am going to use it. I will trailer my Catalina 22, it is nothing to put in and take out.

DO not get rid of your Oday 222, both will have their niche in how you sail.
