I have removed the old rub rail on 1983 Catalina 30TR which was held on by over 200 screws (one inch pan head stainless steel screws) which secured the aluminum part of the rubrail to the hull/topsides. I am ready to install the new rub rail and wonder if all the screws actually hold the topsides to the hull. Since the seam is there and they used so many screws in the original design are these structural in nature? Do they hold everything together? If they don't why are there so many? Can anyone answer this before I start filling the old holes with 5200 and drilling new holes for over 200 screws.
