20 oday mast part?

o day 20' frankfort mi
I am entering my 1st season owning a sail boat -
my 20' oday main mast has a part missing (I am guessing )
there is a slot about 3' up from boat top were the sail plastic guides slide in but nothing to close off this opening .
not sure what the part (cover ) would be called or if there even is suppose to be something there . but it would would be nice when letting sail down so clips do not fall out ..
if someone could help i would appreciate it . i can send picture if my description isn't clear enough

You could install a slide stop or a mast gate to keep the slugs from falling out of the slide.

Fun boat. I restored mine last year. I just use a cotter pin. works great.
