(thanks for the response to my centerboard question) New Question: The 25' Im looking at is motorless. I found a 8hp 20" longshaft for a reasonable price. No one at the broker or motor sales place seems to know whether or not this will work for the 25' O'day (I guess most Longshafts are 25"?) Does anyone have an opinion on this? Thanks

I would think it a bit short.

I would be concerned that you will not have enough prop in the water to reverse well. I have a 28" Johnson on my C25, and until I changed the motor mount last week could not reverse as the prop would pop out of the water when I tried. Moving the mount lower on the transom is tough because you will not then be able to pull the motor up all the way to reduce drag. YMMV, Justin - O'day Owner's Web

20" works for me

I have a new Nissan 20" 8 hp on my Oday 25, and it works fine. I suppose it depends on how your motor mount is designed. I never have any problems, though. --R
