I need one stateroom, so 2 is OK but in the pictures the storage area looks great. If I buy a 3 stateroom can I store as much in the extra stateroom opposite the head side as the 2 stateroom model gives, (40' oceanis is what we hope to upgrade to late 1990s to early 2000s) It seems there are more 3 Stateroom models out there?

Our First 36.7 has 3 staterooms, as all 367s do. Or as we like to say, a 2 stateroom boat that has reading lights in the sail locker.
The 3rd stateroom has almost as much room as a storage room. Sadly it weights a bit more. But is much more flexible (you can store sails in a stateroom, but you can't sleep in a storage area), and many buyers like the flexibility.

Usually the 3 cabin versions place the galley down the side of the saloon - an awful placement for cooking underway, and generally a nuisance for crew moving about the boat while anchored. Everything is a trade-off in these situations and the galley placement is a big one. The reason you see alot of these 3 cabin boats is the charter trade where more cabins equals more charters. There is a reason they call the 2 cabin boats, 'owner's layout'.
