2 lines on the front of the mast?

I'm pulling the mast next week to replace broken sheaves, add another jib halyard and get the lights to work. I noticed I have two lines on the front of the mast...one just below the lower spreader and one just below the upper spreader? What is their purpose?Gene Kinney h40
