Hi there fellow Mariners, particularly those who own the coveted Catalina 27. This weekend floating camper is not merely a boat; it's a sanctuary that sails me away from the daily grind to Pacific destinations that are 14 Nm from Heaven's gate. As you can tell I love my Catalina but more importantly I've discovered an eclectic community of Catalina 27 owners;
men and women from all backgrounds that share the same love of sailing,
escaping and exploring. Last weekend I attended the first Catalina 27
Rendezvous at Silva Bay marina on BC's Gabriola island. Over twenty
Cat 27's registered; people came from towns up and down the Georgia Strait.
We held an open house, and I was amazed at the inventiveness of some owners who had come up with ingenious ways to make their boats easier to sail. Digital cameras were clicking as people made a record of some of these original ideas. We also held a marine garage sale which drew lots of interest. The evening BBQ attracted a big crowd followed by a raffle draw with some great prizes like a pair of binoculars, a VHF radio and a free moorage at Silva Bay. The rendezvous was a great success. Next year (May 2010)it will be at Telegraph Harbour, Thetis Island. I for one can't wait.
