My 1GM10 starts fine, run up to full RPM in neutral and has no abnormal smoke. In gear however she seems to bog down at 1500RPM and will not increase in speed with advanced fuel lever. Can anyone give an idea where to start...I'm going to change filters and lines as a start. Thanks, Lee Hendeson S/V El Sueno

If under load...

...you experience these problems, then check your prop for build-up before venturing any further. Then begin to investigate (as you indicated) if the prop/shaft is not fouled.

Wow. is that familiar. I have the exact same problem.. I've done a complete overhaul and have the exact same problem with my 1 GM Yanmar. I am due to pull my 27'hunter for a bottom job in April. I can't say for sure that my prop is or is not obstructed now but I know that last time I pulled her it was not and she smoked anyway.. I've been fighting this very thing for a long time with little answers other than one from a German who sailed from Germany to Louisiana alone, which is, a timing issue with one of three fuel supply points: lift pump, injector, or injector pump. All of which I am pursuing at this time. Feel free to email me with any solutions you may have at bayouchief@yahoo.com J.Picou

hmmm

I have experienced this problem and it seems to be getting worse by a little bit at a time. I'm wondering, in addition to J Picou response, that if maybe the exhaust isn't the problem? These lil motors don't have much horsepower to begin with, but if the exaust is a little clogged and then add the pressure of the prop and tranny resistance to the equation, that this might add up.. Well, now I'm happy that I'm not the only person either.

Things To Check

I would check the prop, clean it up real good, check the mixing elbo, take it apart and clean up if possible or replace, check all fuel filters, also should check the raw water impeller. I have a newer 2001 2GM20F and this is what I do for the last two years before it go's back in the water,I was having trouble with lots of smoke under power when I would encrease speed too fast, cleaning out the mixing elbo made a big difference in this area I can now gun it and get top speed with no smoke, the mixing elbo is on my work bench waiting to be cleaned out. nick
