Going to survey this week on a 1999 36 MkII. While crawling around on it I noticed three deck fills for water; one at the bow, two at the stern, one port and one starboard. The fresh water capacity states 80 gallons. It doesn't make sense to me to divide 80 gallons into three separate tanks. Am I missing something?

Cheers

Water is 8lbs a gallon. It is done for weight distribution

The C355 (similar overall dimensions and displacement) also has 3 tanks - forward midline, starboard midship, and port aft. As John said, it distributes the (considerable) weight of the total water capacity around the boat.

Unclear what your concern is.
According to SailBoatData
TANKS Water: 72 gals. / 273 ltrs. Fuel: 25 gals. / 95 ltrs. with Displacement: 15000 lbs.
My 35Cal carries TANKS Water: 125 gals. 2 tanks Fuel: 185 gals. 2 tanks with Displacement: 15000 lbs. Tanks are beneath the Sole in the center of the boat.

But then I was not looking for a racing boat. Yet I can still do 6.8 knts. average.
