I am thinking of buying this 1998 320 catalina. I live in San Francisco. Which do you think is better for bay and coastal crusing. Wing keel or fin keel?Thank you.
I'm on the SF bay. I'd recommend the fin, slightly better pointing and performance is my understanding, and there are not that many places that you have to worry about depth. It think on the Chesepeake or in Florida, the depth is a much bigger issue.
If you've got the depth, and in your area you should, I'd go with the fin. Better perfomance all around. I sail on a deep lake with a friend who has the same year TR C30. Only difference is that he has a wing and I have a fin. I can point better than him and beat him in races all the time. (Until recently, he had better sails than I did too!) If you don't need shoal draft, go with the fin.
