Hi! I'm keen on a 23.5 as a day boat for my young family, and the vendor of a tidy February 1996 model is asking $20k including trailer. Is this about right? There doesn't seem to be a place on the 'commercial' forum pages for me to ask this question, hence posting it here thanks peter

I bought my '97 H26, about a year ago, for a good amount less than that. It included CDI roller furling jib, stern rail seats, 15hp Honda 4 stroke outboard, trailer and VHF. I did get a steal, but $20K may be a bit high for a 23.5. There are a number of online boat for sale sites and some which will even provide free online appraisals. (Sorry, but I can't remember the links right now.) Do the homework before you jump. Good luck.

Not A Steal
I bought my 92 H23(wing keel) in may of 1999. At that time, I also considered a 1995 23.5. The price was about 10K including the trailer, but I didn't like it a much as the 23 I purchased. Hopr this helps. G Bridi

Based on what others have paid that sounds high, you could buy a nice 23 wing keel, for less than half of that, good luck , dont get carried away, without first looking around, do not want buyers remorse 2 leave u sad, good luck , regards Mike B

Peter; Although I am very new to this, (just took delivery of a 1993 23.5), The "deal" does not sound like one. The Broker that I purchased mine from has a new 24' that he would probably sell for 20,000. I agree with the others, shop the Web and compare before signing. Regards; Gary

Do a web seach for used boat listings and compare. Also, the NADA book people have a website and you can get the market estimate. You need to factor in your local market and the seasonal price trends. We bought our first boat (1982 Hunter 27)Labor Day Weekend and it was a buyer's market. Andy

94 Hunter 23.5
As mentioned. It depends upon which part of the cuntry. Currently in the Great Lakes, the water level is down between 3 - 4 ft. I think this has scared some owners into selling. I purchased mine in March. CDI, VHF, Depth, A++ condition. I negotiated down to $9300. Hope that helps.

Sounds high
I paid $5000 for my 1984 hunter with trailer. The sails needed replacing but other than that it is in great shape. For compairason my Dad just bought a brand new Percision 23 for 20k. Grif

Sounds real high to me
I know it's a no no to solicit on the boards, but since it's relevant to this topic I'll say it anyway. I'm currently selling my 1995 23.5 which is in excellent condition with extras that include bimini top, custom cockpit cushions, depth finder, compass, and a few other little extras for $13000 with trailer. 20k sounds pretty ambitious for that seller. Maybe he thinks he'll let you talk him down 2k, give you the impression you hustled him, and still rip you off. I've seen new 240's being advertised for 20k. You really should check out the "boats for sale" section of this site. My boat, which is a real steal
, is listed there along with a handful of other relatively new 23.5/240's and I don't think any of them are over 18k. For 20k a 1996 23.5 should have tons of extras on it, but in my opinion there's just not a whole lot of extras you really need on a 23.5. Final comment: I think you can do a whole lot better. Marty
