Hunter 40.5 Oyster Bay
Hi all, I am looking at buying a 1993 Hunter 40.5. I would appreciate from hearing from those who have this model. Any major problems or areas of concern? Sailing characteristics? Hull blistering? Etc. I believe it to be all original except for a furling Schaefer custom boom with fully battened main and a fuel polishing system. It has a two blade prop and I wonder if I should go with a Campbell Sailor three blade. I currently have a 1980 Irwin Citation 39 that I will need to sell. Any feedback would be extremely helpful.

Thanks, Frank Smith

The .5 Series Hunters are among the best they ever made. There are no model-specific issues for the 40.5 and I would encourage you to read the large number of 40.5 owner reviews (link below) on this site which should confirm your decision.
About the only change you might want to make is the prop since a 2 blade is not large enough to manage any 40 ft boat.

Great boat. We had a great time on ours until we upgraded to a larger boat. Only issue I'd check out is the holding tank. The original holding tank was aluminium, which corroded. There is a changeout to a plastic tank which is not that hard to do. took me a weekend working alone to get it done. But other then that, we had no other issues with ours.
