With the help of many on this forum, we settled on a 1993 Catalina 30 MkIII Tall Rig w/ Wing Keel this past Friday.

We had started looking seriously for a C30 in September. Based on my research I was looking for a 1988 or newer C30 w/ Tall Rig and Wing Keel and one that would not be a project boat.
We found two we liked, made offers, one the owner decided not to sell, the other the owner went with a different buyer. I then opened up our search area and found this boat in Rhode Island.
A couple of weeks ago Scott T-Bird and I took a road trip and he helped me with a detailed inspection. The following week I drove back up to observe the static survey and had oil samples drawn for analysis. Back I went this past Friday for the full systems check and sea trial. All was well and I came home yesterday with the title.

It has the walk thru transom, bow sprit, 669 hours on the M25XP engine, PPS Dripless shaft seal, new interior cushions, newer sails (quality of build is questionable), U-shapped dinette layout, Faruno radar, ST4000 auto pilot, Autohelm Speed, Depth (not reading) and Wind (worked on and off) instruments and factory windlass. It came with a lot of canvass, some of which needs new stitching and a dodger that needs new windows. ( Good projects for my Sailrite sewing machine my wife gave me last Christmas)
Most of the electrical is stock and neat. It has the improved engine panel wiring. Only wiring that has been butchered is for the VHF.

My plan is to leave it where it is for the winter. In the spring I'll spend some time getting to know it and then bring it home.
Here are some photos.

congrats ward. Just a suggestion for those looking at used boats. Look at the engine housing and is it clean. If so will give you an idea what the current owner takes care of the boat.

@John Tubb I'm 6' and had plenty of headroom. Scott is a few inches taller than I and he had to be careful in a few spots. Not quite enough headroom for him. The C30 feels huge compared to the O'day 25.
@Crazy Dave Condon I agree. I scrutinized ads for possible candidates looking closely at photos of the motors. I looked for signs of rust and green corrosion and didn't look further if it looked like the motor had be ignored.

Thanks Everyone! It is going to be a long winter!

Fun road trip! I might have helped but the deal was pretty good on my end. Ward paid me in chowda and lobsta roll!
Luckily, State Line Park in the Palisades left the gate open for me when we arrived later in the evening to pick up my car at our rendezvous. Otherwise, I might have been sleeping in my car overnight until the park opened in the morning.
This Catalina 30 is a beauty and the spacious cabin should suit Ward & Cathy nicely. I'm looking forward to sailing her home with Ward next spring. I think sailing out of Narragansett Bay will be a nice adventure!

I regret never owning my own boat when we lived in Bristol, RI. It was a great area for boating and sailing for sure and I did have fun on other people's boats!

Nice boat Ward. That will probably be my go to boat if we go larger. Helped a friend tow an MK- III to Mexico back in the mid '90s. It is all you need in that size boat. (I guess I better add "for coastal cruising" so those that have offshore boats that never get off the dock don't flame me. A true blue water sailor knows what I mean.)
