Hunter 33.5 Chicago
I just purchesed a '92 33.5 Hunter. Can anyone tell me where to
locate an owners manual ?. Also, there was no hour meter on this boat.
Is this common?..

First, I'd call Hunter and see if they have the manual on CD.

I have the manual for a 1993 33.5 and from memory it's around 200 pages. In worst case I could get a quote from Kinkos to get a copy made.

The two areas I've spend considerable time on improving the Fuel System and replacing the original prop (and shaft).

If there's a drawing or something you need from the manual I'll gladly scan it and sent it.

There is no hour meter unless installed by P.O. My 1991 H33.5 had 2 manuals, neither one was for a 33.5. I believe one was titled "Hunter 336". Can't remember about the other one. Let us know if Hunter can supply one on CD. That would be awesome.

Mcathcart questions

Mcathcart, why did you replace the shaft and prop? What did you go to? What did you do to the fuel system?

Thanks

As Ken said, my 1993 did not have an hour meter either.

I fought several problems concerning propulsion. I have 5 miles to the inlet and spend more time that I'd like to in "the ditch" so my original two blade prop was not cutting it. I also had a vibration that was around 2,200 rps and higher. Since the cost of a haul-out is expensive I figured the best thing to do was replace the prop and shaft together (after they were balanced together). My vibration might have just been the prop but it wasn't worth not spending the $140.00 for a shaft. My original prop was a 16 x 13R. (The 33.5 shaft is 1" x 48".) I hated to drag a huge 3 blade prop but in my case it was the best decision. I went to a 15 x 14R three blade prop. The boat motors like a different animal now, absolutely no vibration, under power it will cruise at 6 to 7 knots and backs like a champ.

Fuel system? You like the little fuel pump lever on the 3GM? :cussing:
First I added an electronic fuel pump (that's passive) so it Does Not Have To Run unless needed. I'm using a PowerFlow 10700 that's locate in the bilge with a DPDT switch (if you're bleeding the system, just turn the pump on. I also added a manual Starter Button to the engine area which is nice). Fuel filter, I installed a Parker Racor 500 filter. It's over kill for a 3GM but it has inexpensive filters (10/20/etc Micron) and a Large Bowl that's Clear to see Water!

Thanks for the info. Here is a difference... My boat uses a 2GM20F 2-cylinder engine. That is under-powered for a boat of this size. I have thought about swapping the prop to a 3-blade, but always found something else I needed instead. My friend with a Catalina MK II motors faster then I do. Of course I sail circles around him.

Your fuel system sound like a great improvement. I should replace my fuel filter more often then I do, and always dread pumping the little lever on the filter assembly on the engine. That also reminds me about my friend with the Catalina... It has a Universal engine that is self-priming. What a great idea!

Mcathcart??? Where in the fuel system did you mount the electric pump? I'd like to move my current Racor and upsize it like you did, but need a little more room. Can I mount the PowerFlow where the current filter is and then cut the new filter in downstream toward the engine and the secondary filter? So it would be fuel tank-fuel pump-primary filter-secondary filter. Seems electric fuel pump would make bleeding system easier. Thanks...

And there's more...

I installed a two way valve in the bilge (about 10" behind the transmission) and just behind the valve I installed the electronic pump. I can polish my own fuel by turning on the electric fuel pump and changing the position of the two-way valve. In position two it just circulates fuel though the Racor, pump, and sends it back to the tank.

I can go over to the boat sometime Sunday and take a few pictures if you'd like to see. It's a fairly simple system that works well. I Always pump the water out of my tank Every year but still have to deal with some water.

I added the starter button in the engine compartment since I always want to bump the engine over (or crank it) and would have to short the solenoid.

Yep... Mine is actually, Primary Filter at fuel tank, removed the original small Racor and installed a Truck Filter, electronic pump, 2-Way Valve, to engine (w/Yanmar mechanical fuel pump & filter).

Ken, my pal has a 30' Catalina with a 1GM Yanmar. I think the 1GM is about 7 or 9 hp? We got caught in a 30 knot blow (right on the nose) in the Cape Fear river a couple years ago and he said that he Lost all Steering. My response was, "'Cause you were no longer moving Forward".

Mcathcart...some pictures would be very cool. I'm surprised you have enough room aft of the trans. to add more equipment, pretty shallow on my 35.5!
