I recently purchased my 1990 Vision 32 and wanted to hear from any readers what the largest headsail can be used on this vessel without any hardware modifications. I knowingly have to replace the sail when I purchased the boat. I want to get as much performance as I can with speed in mind. Anyone know?

Thanks

Bobby

Bobby:

You can put any size jib sail on this boat you want but most of your drive is going to come from the main. I think you would get a lot more benefit out of a "flat top" main than worrying about the jib. Our HV'36 sail well with just a main. The jib just makes us point up a little higher/faster.

If you want to do something with the jib, you may consider making it self tending so you can concentrate on the main. A self tender on these boats would make very little if any difference in speed and you can spend your idle moments adjusting the main for optimal performance.

Many of the major hardware mfg have setups for a self tender.

Try drivng up to US Sails on the main drag in Deltaville and ask them. I submit that you'd get more power with a genoa than you will on the main, at least with H320.

Everyone had great responces and I thank you all. I failed to mention that I have some damage to my headsail and will need some extensive repairs. I was trying to outweigh my options to maybe replacing the sail in an effort to get more performance with a different size if I desided to replace the sail. Thanks Bobby
