When I filled my H2O tank after winter storage, it popped a hole in the bottom. The hole was not on a seam, but upon inspection I noticed that the seams were leaching antifreeze. I decided to replace the tank. The board in the V-berth that covered the tank was fiberglassed in. It appears that the tank was put in during construction, then the V-berth board went in and was fiberglassed to the side walls inside the V-berth, then the shelving was fiberglassed in, then the uphostery padding was glued in, then the coach roof was put on. To get the V-berth board out, I had to cut it. To get the tank out, I will have to remove doors and trim. My question is this: Is the V-berth board fiberglassed in to provide addtional hull strength in the forward section of the hull? Do I need to fiberglass in the new board(s) to the hull or can I fiberglass in 2x4's laterally to the hull and screw my V-berth board(s) to them? This will still provide a fair amount of strength and allow much easier access to the tank if it ever needs servicing or changing again. Any input would be appreciated.

Call Hunter

When I needed similar advice on replacement of a tank on my 30T (1991) I called Customer Service at Hunter. They gave me excellent advice and seemed happy to do so. They described how they had built the boat around my tank and told me the steps to follow to replace it, including where and how large to make an opening in a load bearing bulkhead.

I had my H335 water tank replaced

Glenn, Roy is right -Hunter will be pleased to help, as they did when my tank was replaced under warranty. Don't take the doors and trim off until you know you need to as I recall the tank apparently came off the boat without the anticipated difficulty. The marine ply was glassed in again when my repair was done. Denis Embleton
