I removed my leaking waste tank yesterday. Cut a hole in aft compartment to access and remove. Not too bad a job. For general knowledge this is the size of the tank: 21” X 14” X 9” = approximately 11 gallons I am debating whether to go back with a portable system or replace the tank. I know the portable tanks are less of a problem to deal with. With a portable toilet I don’t have to worry about a pump out station or lugging my transport tank down to the club to empty the tank myself. And then if I buy a portable toilet what is the best one to buy? One with no runs drips or errors or at least easy to work with. Had a Sealand once it was the best however not sure anymore. I noticed some have capability to attach to a permanent tank on board and other capabilities, any thoughts on this any recommendations? Thanks Jim

I'd replace the holding tank

You already have a toilet and intake thru-hull installed...if you go back to a self-contained portable, you'll have a thru-hull and seacock that will still require some attention and maintenance while not doing anything useful. So-called "MSD" portapotty models are fitted for pumpout, but that doesn't mean they can be pumped out this time, carried out next time, at will...it's an installation choice. Connecting one to a remote tank wouldn't give you any benefit except more capacity...'cuz it would still have to be permanently installed along with a macerator or manual pump to move the contents. And then THAT tank would still have to be pumped out. So IMO the simplest most straighforward solution is a new holding tank to replace the one you've removed. And btw, a tank with those outside dimensions would have about 10 gallons useable capacity. Tank sizes are always stated according to their useable capacity. However, if you still want to replace your whole sanitation system with a portapotty, SeaLand is still the best quality. Your best source for a new tank is Ronco Plastics...they make top quality tanks for a very reasonable price and have more than 400 sizes and shapes, including over 100 that are non-rectangular. Their catalog is on their website at http://www.ronco-plastics.com
