1990 30-2 value

Looking at this Hunter 30. Decent shape for it's age. Decks are solid. Boat is dry Engine was winterized in 2018 and hasn't been started since. Canvas and running rigging are on their way out. Headsail is usable but will need some repair or replacement soon. Freshwater it's whole life. It's been sitting where you see it most of it's life. The marina acquired it on back slip rent. It's a make an offer kind of deal.

What would you value it at? Comparable, but ready to sail vessels are listed at 19-26k. I was thinking 9k as it sits? It's a buyers market for sailboats here. Not much demand for them on this lake.

Am I too high? Insultingly low?

Things to look for? Problems with this model?

Perhaps you could approach it from another direction. How much in unpaid rent does it take for the marina to take the boat?

Knowing the marina monthly costs, the forfeiture rules in the marina contract, what folks say about the marina taking boats for payment etc. Gives you a pretty good idea of what the marina is trying to recover in the deal. At least puts you in a position to bring cash to make them whole.

You may find they are upside down in the boat.

Seems a bit low. You don’t mention what year it is. Most of the issues you noted are normal wear and tear items I think, and are probably baked into the asking price of the boat.

But hey, you can make a lowball offer and see what they say.

I purchased my current boat from a guy who owned it for about 4 years…I know what he paid for it because I also made an offer a few days too late and the broker told me what it sold for... the owner moved and needed to sell the boat (which was left at a marina in another state). I made an offer about $3k less than he paid for it (and he added a $1000 CP). He took it and I got a nice boat. Could have probably gotten it for less, but it felt like stealing ;-).

You might start by asking the marina what they want for the boat.
