Thats a lot of $

You are in HA and I'm in VA but for $4,500 it should come on a trailer, with complete rigging, a compliment of decent sails and a 4 stroke O.B.

At least that is how I found mine (less the O.B.) for only $800. I know I landed the deal of the century but I had plenty of choices in the $4,000 range.

The boat is always free. You are buying the sails, trailer and O.B.

Two questions (I know you guys have the answers! )

1. What are the respective lengths of the standard mast and boom for this 89 Mac 26?

2. Will the mast and sails from my 78 Mac 22 work at all on the 26? (Even poorly?)

Searching for a replacement mast and brainstorming other possibilities....

As always, thanks in advance. :)

Not positive, but was told the mast was 28'

1st question is if the base plate (step) will fit your current v22 mast.
2nd q, is will the wires(frm the v22) fit (shrouds/stays). -probably not. your boat v22 is smaller

-you'd need to cut new wires... (either cutting the 26's down, or brand new)

but if you were willing to move your mast step and cut new wires I think it would work.

however it would be underpowered. a little. (the v22 is a fractional rig correct?)

I'm still going with sail the 22, and wait for a (cheap) used mast to show up...

Thanks MB. I'm going to measure the mast on my 22 tomorrow. I think I could make it work; maybe not perfectly, but better than nothing. No problem with making my own shrouds and stays.

Meanwhile, we're kind of in the same boat (as you described above.) Definitely working towards sailing the 22, and looking for a mast for the 26. But if I find a replacement tube, the guy is going to have to come down a whole lot on his asking price: mostly all he's got is the hull and trailer. No real rig; no outboard; nada lotta much there.

Always on the lookout, though. Thanks again for the help.

Well, the mastless 26 is still available as far as I know, and today I ran across a mast (on another island) that might work.

Mr.Bill said the length of the M26 mast was about 28 feet; so's this one, but it's from a Rhodes 19-footer. Other dimensions of the mast are about 3" X 2" in width, airfoil shaped.

The seller has a boom and sails available, too.

What do you guys think? Might this be a passable replacement for the Mac 26 mast?

(I'll have to ship it from Oahu to the Big Island.)

As always, thanks in advance. :)

3" by 2"?? Sounds kinda small, IIRC.
I'm pretty sure the mast on my 25 is 4.5" by 3".

Yup. I'm thinking that, too; even on my M22 it's only a fraction below 4 X 3" each way.

I don't know how good the guy is at measuring stuff, but those are the numbers he gave. If he's right, sounds like it might break on an M26, no?
