The topping lift is missing on the boat I recently purchased. I would like to install a combo wire/rope but do not know how it specifically attaches to the top of the mast. Can someone fill me in?
I have a 1990 H28... my topping lift runs up the mast just like my halyard... it enters the mast about 6' above the deck on the port side.... the top of the mast should be designed for the topping lift to be cradled for your line.... I attach my topping lift to the end of the boom and is adjustable at the lower port side of the mast, where a cleat is mounted (on the mast).Hope that helps.
My 28.5 has a rope topping lift which has a eye at one end that connects to the top of the mast on a pin. It then travels to the outer end of the boom thru a block forward along the outside ( port ) of the boom to a cleat at the mast end of the boom. I guess the idea is that all the control lines ( out haul, reefs, and topping lift) are located at the goose nect on the mast.
Hi John I like this design. wire from top of mast to about 3' above boom end, terminate in thimble, attach small block to thimble. take 5/16" line from end of boom, up to block above, down to turning block on end of boom, forward to cleat at forward end of boom. Infinitley adjustable, easy to do. Good luck red
Looks like there are several different methods. I would like to use wire/rope but I am uncertain how to connect the wire to the top of the mast. I'll probably haul up someone (small) and "hopefully" figure out what is necessary at that point..
