1987 S2 7.3 - Shopping for a boat

I'm shopping for a boat and found a 1987 S2 7.3. There is not a lot of information about this model on the web. It appears that S2 changed the 7.3 for that year. I found an archived listing about an S2 24 that raises a concern about the mast base stability.

Does anyone have experience with this model boat?

No, but if it is true that there is no bulkhead and no compression post under the mast I think I would be a little concerned too. Perhaps less so if I were on a small lake vs. a large lake / ocean where I would routinely encounter rough seas / weather.

I have sailed an 83 7.3

Great boat IMO. But this boat sounds like a different animal. I would check the boat out in person. If you see crazing around the mastbase run away. If not, maybe she is the one?

It wouldn't be the end of the world to install a removable compression post that you only use while you are sailing...
