Howdy all. I was anchored for a night at Channel Islands and my exit hose for my bilge pump broke off at the bulkhead inside the hull. I think this was due to one of my crew bumping it with some gear. Nonetheless, it wasnt very difficult to break since its made of plastic. I ended up with about 3" of water in cabin before finding the cause and putting in a wooden plug with some Boatlife Life-Calk (black caulk that can be applied underwater) sealant to keep the boat afloat. (always carry wooden plugs!!!)
This exit hose is about 1.5" above the waterline and with any amount of wind chop its underwater 50% of the time. I find this very poor design and would like to repair it by moving the exit hole up at least 12-14".
Ive attached a couple of photos I took when we were back at the dock to show the plug. The outside shot is a little difficult to see due to the fact I would have to put my camera in the water to get a good shot.
Lessons learned...Always carry wooden plugs and sealant. Be very careful when loading and unloading the lazarette.
