This is from NADA. Any ideas if it is close? They did not consider a working trailer ($1000.00?) and a decent outboard, 1995 Evinrude Yachttwin 8.0, 2 cyl, 2 stroke ($500.00).

In the special notes on the values page, you will note a trailer is included in the value as per "23(*)". The motor however, is not. Then there is condition, condition, condition.....

The motor you can look up separate on NADA, which looks to be $195. I have never seen outboard values anywhere near realistic, try buying one for that and youll get laughed out of town fron one coast to the other. I would value it at at least $500 if it runs.

But as you know too, your regional area has more to do with your boats value. Most of sailboats are sold with a motor, and are often not as salable without it. Prospective buyers are looking for a "package".

The next part of the deal is how long do you want to look at it, and whats your "bottom dollar". If you havnt sold the boat by the 4th of July, you might have to almost give it away unless you sit on it till next season.

Check your local CL for sailboats, as well as the surrounding areas, and this site and others, and see what your competition is selling for.

I would say those prices are in the ballpark. However, trying to price a 20+ year old sailboat is difficult at best. Location, condition, included equipment, time of year and even the sellers personality and desire/need to sell play a part. Take a look at the boats that have sold over at the SailingTexas.com web site; you will find a range of prices from $1200 for a damaged 1987 boat without trailer or motor, up to $8500 for a fairly pristine 1990 boat that didn't sell at that price. The majority of prices sold are right around the NADA values, or somewhere in the $5-$6K range. Only two of the 60 or so listed sold for slightly more than $7K, and both were above average boats in outstanding condition and with lots of goodies included.

Keep in mind that these boats originally sold new for only around $11K ready to sail. They came from the dealer with trailer, motor and all necessary equipment needed to get out on the water (life preservers, bilge pump, portable toilet, anchor and line, etc.. and even a copy of Chapman's Piloting, Seamanship and Small Boat Handling book)! $5,500 would be 50% of the original sales price, which is reasonable and shows that these boats have held their value fairly well over the years.

Cheers,
Brad

* Complete list of stuff included with the boat when sold is detailed on the original sales brochure.

I'd agree with the location comments. I got mine ready to sail for for 2500 with trailer no motor. Picked up a working Johnson 6 HP for 400. In Oklahoma, there's not that much of a demand for sailboats and with the drought the last 2 years I bet I'd have a tough time even giving mine away. Least Lake Hefner is at capacity now. Sad thing is that I had spinal fusion 1 month ago and can't take advantage of the wonderful weather and lake conditions. >:|

Good information Mr. Unix as that is a good site to really judge what is selling at. A lot will depend on condition and how hungry the seller is as well. What ever you do, always get a survey as most photos on the internet will never tell if there is damage just how pretty the boat is.

The NADA book prices are not true value anyway. The value is what people are willing to pay at the time. I looked at a 87 Hunter 23 last fall. Boat, motor and trailer in excellent condition was marked down to $3800 from $5500. I was willing to go $3200 but he wouldn't take it. I ended up getting a 84 Catalina 22 for under half that price.

I bought a h23 last Nov for 3200$ in very good shape with trailer and motor think they were asking about 4000$ . I know of 2 other h23s in my area that that were over $5000 but have not sold and are lowering there prices .
