Pearson 36-2 centerboard Huron, OH
Having purchased a 1986 Pearson 36-2 the owner mentioned he left the centerboard partially down as warning for hitting bottom. We discovered later that it was impossible to bring the board all the way up with the crank and cable, pulled too hard. However we could lift the board from the outside with no resistance except the weight.
It has been suggested that one or more of the pulleys the cable wraps is damaged. These are sealed as they are below the waterline so hard to tell.
Question: Has anyone had this problem? Solution? Where can the pulley assemblies be rebuilt if bad? Any suggestions will be appreciated

The old Centerboard....

I too have a 1986 P36-2. When I first bought her (Hull #101) 5 years ago, I completely disasembled the centerboard routing... took all the stainless steel sheeve housings inclusive of the one attached to the bottom of the bilge. Ended up having the one attached to the bottom of the boat fabricated from scratch as the internal sheeve was frozen and not working. They are bronz sheeves in a stainless housing. Also, the cable is ss and if the p/o never used it, they have been sitting on a bronz sheeve. Between the electrolysis, growth and natural corrosion this thing would not budge. All of the others were fine so I cleaned them out and oiled. Put the system back together and the thing goes up and down like butter.....

A bit of work and she should be fine. Any questions ask.... have a bunch of pictures also. Think some or most may be on this site archived as I cronicled my complete rebuild of the boat.
