Hi all, my rudder for my 1985 O'Day 26' snapped in half in the beginning of the season, just 1 week after purchasing the boat. I got an emergency replacement that was really meant for an O'Day 25'. This new rudder is made out of what I was told is PVC, which has a lot more flex to it than my original rudder which was a wood core surrounded by fiberglass. The problem with this new rudder though is that it has too much flex and it looks like it is a smaller surface area. I am hoping to modify it by making it stronger and bigger over the winter season, but cannot find any specifications on the rudders made for the O'Day 26' boats. I am looking to see if anyone knows where I can find detailed specifications on the original rudders made for the O'Day 26' boats so that I have something to compare it with. Any help is much appreciated.

If your previous rudder had a wood core, it wasn't the original. O'DAY rudders had a foam, core inside the fiberglass shell. The fiberglass was molded in 2 parts (port and starboard halves) and I think the foam was what held it together, there may have been some adhesive around the edges, but all O'DAY rudders (20. 22. 23. 25. 26. 272) had a definite seam visable around the edges.
I thought that I had the 26 Rudder specs, but what I have is the 25. The Centerboard is the same for both boats, but apparently the Rudder is different, at least price from D&R Marine is different. Still, the 25 rudder might be a good starting point, it would give you a place to start. I also included the picture of a 26 Rudder from the D&R web site.
