Hello!

I am looking to purchase a Lewmar folding steering for our 84 hunter 31. Sadly at the moment the boat is winterized and far away.

I would like to know if there is a sure way to figure out the wheel hub type, if it's taper or a dual hub kind. Like; did it come out of factory all in the same way?

If not i will wait for spring to go check it out before i do order anything.

Thanks alot!

The Lewmar folding wheel I bought came with a tapered hub and straight shaft hub. Hope that helps

Going sailing tomorrow. 1983 Hunter 31. Let me know what to look for and I will try to take some pictures. Folding wheel sounds interesting. Its a tight squeeze getting around the wheel on the Stargazer

After some research i noticed that the Lewmar wheel can come with a dual hub, wich include parallel and taper fittings.
I will wait until spring to make sure the shaft is the correct diameter.

To me it's a must; we already have a 40/42" wheel, wich looks awesome and is useful, but getting around it is a PITA.

Sadly we got the boat the day it was getting hauled out, at the end of the season. Cant wait for the upcoming summer!!

My 31 and 34 both had straight shafts. Do you have to order one or the other? Sounds like to me it comes with both. If not why not order both and return the one you don't use? Just my 2 cents

On my 40.5, I put on a BAW (big ass wheel)
No way to get around it
So, I got the Edson remote wheel mount, and the quick change nut. Whole invsestment <$100
So, you pop off the wheel, and it just hangs on your stern rail, or whatever.
More importantly, I don't like the feel of the folding wheel for steering.
It's got a ton of hardware on the rim, and just feels clumsy
Think about this idea. It works well

I just got mine and it came with the taper installed It was easy to change out with the straight hub included in the kit. I am looking forward to installing it.
