Need info on replacement of large side windows on my 1984 Hunter 31.
Are they available anywhere?? Has anyone tried a different type window to replace old?? If so. What did you use to replace inside trim??
Any info will be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Steve

Nothing from Hunter but try Bomon Marine in Canada or Mark Plastics in Corona Cal.

It's easy

I just replaced mine two weeks ago for the second time. Measure the top, ~29"+/-, bottom, ~42"+/- , and ht. 7-1/4". Wish my memory was better, but Im getting old.

Locate a local plastics place online. Mine cost $90. Make sure you get acrylic and use Dow 795 for sealant.

I'm getting ready to do mine as well and I'm curious as to the type of material used. Acrylic seems like what most guys are using for windows. What makes it the candidate of choice over plexiglass?

Is there a measure or degree of the tinting for Acrylic (light, dark) or is it one standard darkness of tint? I've even heard of smoked acrylic.

Plexiglass is Rohm and Haas' tradename for acrylic. DuPont calls it Lucite. Its all just polymethylmethacrylate.

Acrylic stands up better in sunlight and doesn't craze as much.

There are several levels of tint available. A good plastics supplier will have samples of them (TAP plastics in our area). I think we chose a 60% opacity. Looks dark from the outside and like looking through sunglasses from inside.

Here's how I did mine on the 34, it does require additional work to re-shape the opening and fill the voids but the result is fairly clean imo.

Guillaume,

Those windows came out absolutely beautiful. As you can see in my earlier post, I just put one large piece of acrylic across both openings. I like how you retained the separate windows and have eliminated the frames as well. It appears that you have also completely eliminated the frames inside as well. Did you bond the windows to the cabin top with the Dow 795?

I also see that the little teak "eyebrow" is gone. Very clean look.
