Hello, has any one had any problems with the muffler on there Yanmar 8hp powered hunter 27
Can it stop up? also can it be cleaned out ?
It dose not leak but its old and I didn't know how long they last
and if I should replace it. the exhaust is flowing however I disconnected the hose for the engine and ran a water hose in it and the water did not flow form the exhaust however, water will flow with the engine hooked up and running.
dose it take engine pressure to push the water out the exhaust?
or should it free flow with a reg water hose is run threw it?
Thank you,

Hi, welcome to the forum. Water from a hose will not easily get past the raw water pump. The engine must be running. I think you may have a non-problem. If water is coming out of your stern exhaust port, and be aware that it does not "Gush" out, then all is well! You will get a bit more discharge as the engine reaches higher RPM's. If it's water locked muffler, no water comes out and you should get an engine overtemp light on the starter panel if that happens. Keep us posted on your findings.

This as meant to be constructive and helpful and save you from yourself.
What you describe makes my hair stand on end.
Hooking up water hoses randomly to various points on you engine, is the recipe for some huge expensive repairs if you manage to back flood the exhaust and cylinder(s).

I did mean disconnected the exhaust hose from the engine and ran water threw the hose to the muffler.
after doing more reading that's not a good idea either.
however I think its operating fine, my o.c.d. has cost me a fortune lol.
Best regards,
