I recently acquired a 1982 Starwind 223 The boat sat on a trailer for 4+ years, but seems to be in relatively good shape I need to remove the retractable keel (cast iron 775 lbs) I'm stuck on how to do this The pivot pin seems to be water sealed by installing a one inch pipe nipple with a cap into a plate inside the keel pocket. Of course the caps are rusted fast. The caps are so close to the hull bottom I can get a wrench around them. I assume there is a pivot pin inside the nipples. In addition, there are 6 stainless steel bolts around (very close) this nipple that I believe hold the plate inside the pocket to the hull. Has anyone removed the keel and resinstalled it? Would appreciate any advice/experience/drawing, etc. Thanks for your time Dan Wien

Sounds like you have a Catalina 22. I have owned both, the Starwind and a Catalina. Support the keel and remove the bolts.

I was given a starwind 223 by a friend and would also like to remove the keel before I put it in the water, to see if the pivot pin, etc. is in good shape. I don't think the 1" pipe with the pipe cap is the pivot pin. If you reach down further you'll find what I think is the pivot pin. It look like it should be driven toward the Starboard side. Let's keep in touch.
