We have just acquired a 1982 27 and it has what appears to be a Hood "direct line" or "line drive" (DL or LD) furling system. I need to replace the furling line itself and I was looking for some information on how to do that. The important question is how to make an end to end splice in the new line (double braided 7/16) that is not too fat to go through the furling wheel. Or can I put the line on as a loop by removing or messing with some hardware. I would settle for a phone number or web site that can offer some technical support, even if I have to pay. And if I may be so bold, please avoid the "get a new furling rig" answer. :) Thanks, Ron.

An end toend spliceis nowhere as difficult to accomplish as iot appears. You can pay a rigger to come out and do the splice in place, or you can go out and get Brion Toss's tapt on splicing, do the splice yourself, snd probably have money left in your pocket when you're done. I've done both the eye splice and the end to end and the latter is much easier. Toss has a web site (Can't find address right now but a search will turn it up.)
