O'day 22 Nashville
Hello. I bought an O'Day 22 that came with an accessory that I need help with. See photos. It was rolled up and when unrolled the two sides open like a book and the aluminum poles connect on each side. It measures 9x8 and is made from a type of sail cloth. At first I thought it might be a boom tent but there is that odd slit at one end and then I thought it could be a bimini. I'm the third owner and the PO never unrolled it and does not know either.

Seems like a boom tent to me, or at least a boom awning. But you're right, the slit at one end is curious. I don't know what it would go around, as you'd still want the aluminum tubing to sit on the boom and hold out the ends. So you wouldn't want to put the slit around the mast or the topping lift... Is a mystery.

My awning looks a bit like his. The slit is for the back stay, of which I have two. My leading edge has a large zipper which contacts to the zipper piece on the aft edge of my dodger.

would the aluminum tube be the right length to span from one side stay to another on the other side? With the canopy above the boom, and the slot used around the back stay or topping lift?
Maybe the two tubes have enough slide adjustment to be the perfect fit between the side shrouds?

Aha! Very nice everyone. I knew you'd figure it out amongst you. I bet you're right on the topping lift. I'll try to fit it this weekend and circle back.
