1981 Hunter 27

I am beginning to fix a 1981 Hunter 81 for the Boy Scouts on a volunteer basis.

1. What is the specific model of the Yanmar engine. Is it a 9 hp or a little lesser.

2. Where can I get a single stanchion for this boat.

When I retired, I figured why not use my God given talents and I am enjoying working on a volunteer basis on daysailor fleets for the Boy Scouts. Even the exerience sometimes need some help like in this case. Thank guys.

Hunter 27s had different motors over time. By '81 I think it was the Yanmar 1GM10. Who knows how many horses are still in there? Two sources of stanchions that we hear about are Garhauer and White Water Marine( http://www.whitewatermarineinc.com/ ).

SB 8?

My '77 model was an SB 8, rated at 8 HP new, and probably producing 6 HP when I replaced it.

Same here.. my '77 H27 had a yanmar SB8 (8HP) in it when purchased.

During that time the h27 was equiped with a Renault engine or the the 1GM Yanmar rated at 6.5HP. Depending on how horsepower was measured this same engine was advertised as producing 8HP. It is a strong little diesel engine producing a large amount of torque able to drive a fair sized propeller.

The 81 h27 that we had (since moved up to a 340) had a Yanmar 1GMH which produced 7.5 hp. Reliable but single cylinder so a little noisy. Guaranteed to wake the marina if leaving early in the morning ;-). I changed the engine mounts (suspect they were original) and made a world of difference. Be sure and check the cutlass bearing, shaft and engine alignment too. This was my project boat so happy to answer any questions! Scott

My 1980 has a renault RC8D 8hp single cylinder, screw loosening, filling extracting thumper on board.
You may want to reach out to Jorge on this site, he's got a line on a boat junkyard where he may be able to source a stanchion for you.

Thanks to all and the engine was a Yanmar 1GM 8 for 7.5 hp. Now for the stanchion.

I can take a picture but would prefer to know who could replace it. I think the base is the issue but the one looks ok. The boat is 4 hours away and it will be next month before I am back on it to take a photo. Thank you for your help.
